2004 cadillac deville review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Big, fast, and luxurious. introductionthe cadillac deville is one of america's best-selling full-size luxury cars. These are front-wheel-drive sedans powered by a 4. 6-liter v8 engine. The dts is tuned for higher horsepower.  the standard deville 44,650) looks and drives the most like a traditional cadillac, and balances luxury and value.  dhs 49,800) and dts 49,800) depart from cadillac's old ways. They share retail prices and many features, but the dhs is more luxurious, while the dts is sportier and more powerful.  a new armored version is available for increased security. walkaroundthe cadillac deville is a handsome car, a combination of european and american, of contemporary and traditional. It still looks stylish and contemporary, though it was last redesigned for the 2000 model year. Its styling distinguishes it from other cars, including other cadillacs.  large front lighting clusters and an eggcrate grille give deville a bold appearance. Large doors, massive body panels and expansive glass are broken only by trim along the lower body section. Large wheel wells are filled by 16-inch alloy wheels on deville and dhs, or 17-inch wheels and performance tires on dts.  from the rear, the deville carries the traditional cadillac ambiance, but with a far more contemporary flair. The fins of yesteryear may be gone, but those twin vertical slashes still shout cadillac loud and clear. The tail lamps, redesigned for 2003, rely on cadillac's industry-leading led technology to light up significantly faster than normal incandescent units, giving drivers of following cars an extra fraction of a second warning, which is all it takes in some cases, to prevent a collision. The rear turn signals are distinctive and stand out brightly when blinking. interiorthe cadillac deville interior is roomy and luxurious.  dhs and base deville models come with a full bench seat in front and a column shifter. Dts comes with bucket seats and a floor shifter. New heated and cooled front seats come standard on the dhs and dts and are optional on the deville that feature three levels of cooling. They also feature full-seat heating or back-only heating. A pair of fans in each seat blow heated or cooled air into the seatback and cushion. The system also includes a heated steering wheel, nice on cold winter mornings.  dhs has elegantly gathered leather upholstery, while the dts has stretched perforated leather for a sporty look. The dts is distinguished by a wreath and crest in the grille, while the dhs and deville use a traditional hood ornament.  the standard deville uses digital instrumentation, while dhs and dts get analog gauges.  the rear seat is inviting and comfortable. Legroom seems endless. Independent climate controls for rear passengers offer fan and temperature adjustments. Side-impact air bags for the rear seat are optional 295).  the optional rear park assist is very well executed. Aside from its obvious safety benefits, ultrasonic rear parking assists is useful when parking the car or maneuvering in tight locations. It's a must-have feature for those of us who find parallel parking a challenge, and it speeds up the process for skilled parkers.  one thing we don't like is the placement of the high-beam indicator next to the digital trip odometer. Both are nearly the same blue color, making the high-beam indicator difficult to see, so it's easy to leave the high beams on by mistake, blinding other drivers.  cadillac's advanced vehicle navigation 1,995) incorporates voice-recognition technology, so the driver can keep hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. A 6. 5-inch touch-screen is mounted in the dashboard. The screen tilts down to load the navigation dvd. The system plays music cds as well. For those who want to play music cds while the navigation system is engaged, a glove box-mounted six-cd changer is available 595).  onstar comes standard and includes personal calling, which allows drivers to initiate and receive hands-free, voice-activated phone calls without an additional cellular contract. The system also includes personal advisor, which delivers internet-based news headlines, sports scores, stock quotes, and weather reports.  xm satellite radio 325 plus a monthly subscription fee) is available, providing drivers with cd-quality sound nationwide. The suspension filters unwanted vibration and bumps, but doesn't let the car float around like a boat. Though not as firm as a bmw, the deville provides a well-controlled ride. Bumps are felt, but suppressed to comfortable levels. Go around a fast, sweeping turn and potholes won't upset the car's balance, a benefit of the deville's rigid chassis. This makes the deville easier to handle in tight quarters, important in big cities when surrounded by big trucks and aggressive cab drivers.  the deville is smooth and stable at high speeds. The steering is precise and direct, so the car always goes where the driver intends.  the dts model is particularly agile and feels rock solid on the open road. Dts gets the latest version of cadillac's continuously variable road-sensing suspension (cvrss 2. 0), which features transient roll control, lateral support and enhanced stability. This electronically controlled suspension adjusts shock-absorber damping every few milliseconds, adapting to the road surface and the driver's demands. Variable shock damping allows the dts suspension to soak up road irregularities and isolate passengers from the outside elements, while still providing the tight control needed for precise handling.  braking is sure, stable and effective, with nice firm pedal feel. Just remember to steer. Electronic brake distribution (ebd) helps reduce stopping distances by re-proportioning the braking force from rear to front as the vehicle stops and its weight shifts forward. In everyday, around-town applications, the brake pedal feels smooth and progressive, making it easy to slow the car down smoothly.  all devilles come with the superb northstar v8 engine. This engine is tuned to produce 300 horsepower in the dts, 275 horsepower in the dhs and deville. Thanks to this highly refined power plant, the 2003 deville is responsive, quiet, and fuel efficient. The dts has lots of power and growls aggressively under hard acceleration.  the deville has a great drivetrain. The automatic transmission uses a viscous converter clutch for maximum smoothness with fuel efficiency. We were particularly impressed with the calibration of the transmission, and with the way it communicates with the engine. Slam down the gas pedal and it downshifts smartly to second, the v8 growls and the car rockets ahead. It all works wonderfully.  electronics help the driver control the deville in emergency maneuvers. Cadillac's stabilitrak 2. 0 skid-control system (standard on dts, optional on deville and dhs) makes it nearly impossible to lose control of the deville. However, we reached some very high thresholds in the deville without breaking any of nature's laws. On a closed circuit, we were able to steer into a turn very abruptly, trying to spin the car out. Stabilitrak's computer lightly applies the brakes to individual wheels to keep the deville in control. Bucket Seats✔ CD Changer✔ Navigation System✔ Alloy Wheels

2006 cadillac cts review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. More sport for the great american sports sedan. introductionthe cadillac cts kicked off a renaissance at cadillac and once and for all dispelled the idea that american luxury and sports sedan are mutually exclusive concepts. With sporty handling, exhilarating acceleration and powerful braking, the cts is a sports sedan in the truest sense.  introduced as a 2003 model, the cts launched an edgy new styling theme at cadillac and immediately grabbed the spotlight. The automotive press praised the dynamic qualities built into its superb rear-wheel-drive chassis. A torrent of new models has followed from cadillac, all very good in their own right, but the cts set the mold.  since its launch, the cts has been improved and refined. For 2006, a new sport performance option enhances its sporting character, while a sport appearance package can give every cts the look of the mighty, corvette-powered cts-v. These options complement the new generation of v6 engines and transmissions introduced for 2005.  all of the cts drivelines are smooth, quiet and powerful, with the latest technology and advanced electronic controls throughout. Yet the manual is remarkable for its smooth shifting and easygoing clutch. The cts-v is a great hot rod, but the other cts models are far more pleasant for daily driving.  we love the cts's balance of good ride quality and fine handling. We haven't been happy with its austere interior, but cadillac has tried to soften it a bit and make it more inviting. It has helped reacquaint the world with cadillac's century-long tradition of technology and design innovation. In short, the cts presents a real, uniquely american alternative to traditional class leaders like the bmw 3 series and audi a4. lineupthe 2006 cadillac cts is available with two engines: a 210-horsepower, variable valve timing 2. 8-liter v6 30,515) and a 255-horsepower 3. 8-liter vvt v6 33,160). The package also includes xenon high-intensity discharge headlights. A new sport appearance package includes all the performance gear in performance package and lots of appearance tweaks: unique 18-inch wheels, restyled rocker moldings, dual exhaust tips, wire mesh grille work and a rear spoiler. In short, it's the look of the crazy-fast cts-v for less money.  the dvd navigation system 2,995) includes xm satellite radio with a three-month subscription and a bose stereo upgrade with six-cd changer and eight speakers, plus the new xm nav traffic system, which delivers real-time traffic flow information straight to the nav screen. Popular stand-alone options include a power glass sunroof with one-touch operation 1,200), the bose stereo and cd changer 1,000), and a split-folding rear seat 400).  the limited-production cts-v 50,675) comes stuffed with the 5. 7-liter ls6 v8 engine developed for the chevrolet corvette, generating 400 horsepower and 395 pound-feet of torque. This monster engine comes mated to a tremec six-speed manual gearbox (sorry, no automatic option here). The package includes big brembo brakes and other high-performance tweaks.  safety features on all cts models include active features such as traction control and anti-lock brakes (abs) with brake proportioning, which balances the braking front and rear. There are eight airbags: front, side-impact airbags for front and rear passengers, and curtain-style head protections airbags on each side. In short, the cts comes with the full complement of safety features expected in a modern luxury car. walkaroundthe cts brought cadillac's new art & science design vocabulary to the marketplace. Embodied in the controversial evoq concept car, art & science is a festival of wedges, sharp junctions and chiseled angles that can be seen throughout the generation of cadillacs that followed, starting with the cts. This edgy design is certainly distinctive. Love it or hate it, there's no confusing a new cadillac with anything else on the road.  for all its futuristic themes, art & science is supposed to hark back to the cadillac tradition of vertical headlamps and tail lamps, which dates from the late 1950s through the '60s. Viewed from the front, the cts is imposing, with its large louvered grille framed by sharp, vertical headlamps. The front air dam is all business, with simple rectangular foglights and a long narrow intake near the skirt.  the cts also has a short, high rear deck with tall, vertical tail lamps. The view from the rear is broken up by the indentation cut widely around the license plate in a contrasting color. The cts-v looks a bit better here, thanks to body colored plastic. The rear view is evocative either way.  yet given the power of the front and rear ends, the cts's slab sides seem a little weak in comparison. It looks best with the largest wheels (18 inches) available.  for 2006, the v6-powered cts can be trimmed with the look of the 400-horsepower cts-v, without the monster engine. We like the optional sport appearance package, with fat, 18-inch wheels, aggressive rocker moldings, dual exhaust tips and a rear spoiler, mostly because the v6-powered cts models deliver enough sporting performance to pull it off. There are also three new paint colors: radiant bronze, blackberry and the flashy but expensive infrared option 900). interiorthe angular theme obvious in the exterior styling continues inside the cadillac cts. If critics have panned any particular thing about the cts since its launch in 2003, it's the interior aesthetics. The cts is sold in europe and the interior reflects that. It projects an idea that driving is serious business. Visually, it's an austere cabin, lacking the warmness of the recently launched cadillac sts.  cadillac seems to have taken some of that criticism to heart, because many of the changes since the cts was introduced are focused inside. The appearance of the instrument cluster was improved for 2005, though the gauges remain clear, straightforward and easy to read. There are also softer color packages, including cashmere, introduced for 2006. As it is, the interior is a mix of high-tech textures, some dimpled like a golf ball. Many of the materials are soft and interesting to the touch.  beyond aesthetics, the hardware works great. There's good support for the driver's right leg, and it's soft where the right shin touches. There's a good support for the left leg as well, with a good dead pedal for the left foot. Enthusiast drivers appreciate these for the bracing they provide during a spirited drive.  the three-spoke steering wheel has buttons for the sound system and cruise control, and is deliciously padded in leather for all but the part of the rim between about 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock, which is trimmed in wood. Changing the temperature, adjusting the stereo or operating the navigation system is easy and convenient in the cts. The center stack juts out from the rest of the dash, with the elaborate gps navigation system at the top center location. Climate controls are at the bottom, adjusted with amber-lighted pictograms.  the stereo works well, allowing quick and easy switching from a news channel on xm satellite radio to music on fm to traffic on am to a cd. The small triangular speakers for the optional bose system are mounted on the a pillar, and look cool. Onstar is standard, allowing drivers to make hands-free, voice-activated calls. The system comes standard in cars equipped with the navigation system. A driver can enter a destination into the navigation system, and then, aided by a color-coded display, obtain instant traffic data on the preferred route. The map display will show average speed along that route, as well as accident locations, construction and heavy traf.
